DYING FETUS HAS CANCELLED LAST MINUTE DUE TO ILLNESS. TONIGHT'S FESTIVAL IS STILL ON WITH EACH BAND PLAYING A LONGER SET!

NAILS
NAILS
NAILS was formed in December 2007, and is comprised of Todd Jones, Taylor Young, John Gianelli, and A.R. Saba. Their music can only be described as being beyond conventional aural brutality. Their unique blend of grindcore, death metal and punk invokes the most unabashed violent emotions, from the recesses of its listeners reptilian brains. Their raw sincerity, take no prisoners live show and D.I.Y. work ethic has earned the band a vast loyal following, and made them the most talked about band in the underground. The legendary Max Cavalera recently accurately declared their current album Abandon All Life as “one of the best albums of the last 20 years,” and NAILS to be “probably the heaviest band right now.” Prepare to be conquered!

NAILS released their third full-length album, entitled 'You Will Never Be One Of Us', in 2016.

Misery Index
Misery Index
MISERY INDEX combine the ferocity and precision of death metal with the chaotic attack of Grindcore, Hardcore and Crust. MISERY INDEX set no limits in their goal of making death metal and grind flow together, drawing influence from the classic Death and Grind releases of the early 90’s, such as those from MORBID ANGEL, NAPALM DEATH, TERRORIZER, DISRUPT, BOLT THROWER, ASSUCK and ENTOMBED, among others. The imagery and lyrical concepts are also very critical to the band, and one can expect that in the true nature of the genre, MISERY INDEX will catapult their anger to the forefront, shoving the depravity of our planet right back in the face of all who passively accept the status quo (and have considerable fun while doing it).

MISERY INDEX began as a studio project in 2001, when vocalist and bassist Jason Netherton (ex-DYING FETUS) joined together with guitarist / vocalist Mike Harrison and drummer Kevin Talley (ex-DYING FETUS) to record their debut EP “Overthrow”. This five-song death/grind attack received considerable praise in underground circles, shifting Misery Index into a full time project with the addition of Sparky Voyles (ex-DYING FETUS) on guitar.

In 2002, Mike Harrison and Kevin Talley left the band to focus on other projects and the latter was replaced by Matt Byers, who took up drum duties for their first US tour that summer in support of KATAKLYSM. In 2003, MISERY INDEX released their first full-length “Retaliate”, to exceptional reviews and numerous tours in Europe and North America supporting bands such as DYING FETUS, AMON AMARTH, DEICIDE, and NILE. In 2004 a video for “The Great Depression” was released, complimenting their first live DVD, which featured a full set recorded in Athens, Greece. Later in 2004, Adam Jarvis (ex-ALL WILL FALL, currently in PIG DESTROYER) took over on drums, just in time for MISERY INDEX to hit such European festivals as Wacken Open Air, Brutal Assault, and Party.San Open Air, followed with more touring alongside bands such as BEHEMOTH, NAPALM DEATH, SUFFOCATION, ROTTEN SOUND, and MAGRUDERGRIND. In 2005, guitarist and vocalist Mark Kloeppel (ex-CAST THE STONE) joined Jason, Adam and Sparky, solidifying the line-up for the next five years.

In 2006, second full-length “Discordia” was unleashed, followed by even more persistent touring with bands such as FEAR FACTORY, DESPISED ICON, JOB FOR A COWBOY, BENEATH THE MASSACRE, NECROPHAGIST and ORIGIN. In 2007, MISERY INDEX appeared on festivals like Hellfest in France and Tuska in Finland, as well as hitting places like Turkey, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Romania and Croatia for the first time. However, despite being on the road for months, MISERY INDEX were ready to finalise their third album, so recordings commenced with Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE) at God City Studios in May of 2008. Later that year “Traitors” was released and the band embarked on their next tour with ORIGIN and ABYSMAL DAWN right as the album was hitting stores. Reactions from both critics and fans were raving and the album showcased an exceptional return to form.

In 2008 and 2009, the band toured extensively, playing with and supporting bands such as THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, SOILENT GREEN, HATE ETERNAL, THE FACELESS, CANNIBAL CORPSE, PSYCROPTIC and many more, as well as seeing their first trips to places like Mexico, Russia and Iceland, an appearance on the prestigious Extreme the Dojo festivals in Japan, the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore and European festivals such as Summer Breeze, Party.San, Hellfest, and Death Feast. Entering 2010, the band booked time at Wrightway Studios with producer Steve Wright in their home state of Maryland to commence recording of the fourth album.

MISERY INDEX released “Heirs to Thievery” in May 2010, dropping like a bomb on the Death Metal masses and shattering all expectations. The album was both a commercial and critical success, elevating the band into headlining slots in both Europe and the United States. “Heirs to Thievery” showcased the growing maturity and depth of the band, as the varied songwriting shifted naturally from nuanced, blasting technicality (“Fed to the Wolves”), through pit-inducing groove (“The Carrion Call”), to crushing heaviness (“The 7th Cavalry”). The growth and penetrating hooks of the songs took the band to new levels and was followed by several tours with bands such as GRAVE and AEON in Europe, PSYCROPTIC, ORIGIN, and DECAPITATED in Australia and DESPISED ICON, REVOCATION, JOB FOR A COWBOY, GOATWHORE, and EYEHATEGOD in North America. 2010 also saw the departure of long time guitarist Sparky Voyles, who was replaced by Darin Morris.

Festivals followed in 2011, with MISERY INDEX making appearances at Obscene Extreme, Tuska, With Full Force, Metalfest Open Air and Neurotic Death Fest, as well as seeing their first visit to countries such as Colombia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In 2012, the band made an appearance supporting CANNIBAL CORPSE on their US “Torture” tour, while also joining the Full of Hate festival tour in Europe alongside CANNIBAL CORPSE, BEHEMOTH and LEGION OF THE DAMNED. On the Munich date of the “Full of Hate” tour, the band recorded their first live album. The album will be released on numbered, die-cut vinyl and digital download in February 2013.

In their 12-year existence, MISERY INDEX have released four studio albums, several EPs and performed over 1000 concerts in 45+ countries. Their long-awaited new full-length is expected in 2013 on Season of Mist.

Trends have come and gone, but DECEASED's brand of true-to-the-roots heavy metal has done nothing but mature, distancing them from the throng of half-hearted pretenders, bandwagon jumping retro-metallers, and pseudo-metal shams. Having championed the cause of true metal for fifteen (!) years, Arlington, Virginia's DECEASED are universally recognized as not only pioneers of the true spirit of death metal, but as keepers of the flame of heavy metal's past, present and future. DECEASED arose in 1985, drawing inspiration from BLACK SABBATH, VENOM, RAVEN, MERCIFUL FATE, SLAYER and SODOM. During the period of 1985-1989, DECEASED recorded and circulated three demos (The Evil Side Of Religion, Birth By Radiation and Nuclear Exorcist ) that galvanized their reputation as trailblazers of original, technical American death metal. The 1988 hit and run death of bassist Rob Sterzel brought Les Snyder into the fold, completing the quintessential DECEASED line-up (rounded out by King Fowley on drums/vocals, Mark Adams and Mike Smith on guitars). Extensive self-promotion and frequent gigging up and down the east coast brought the band to the attention of a brand new label- Relapse Records - to which DECEASED were the first band to sign.

In May of 1991, Relapse issued the Gutwrench 7" EP, which built up frenetic underground anticipation for their full-length debut, entitled Luck Of The Corpse. Released in February, 1992, Luck Of The Corpse sold an amazing 15,000 copies without the benefit of a tour to support it. Little more than a year later, DECEASED released a five song follow-up titled The Thirteen Frightened Souls (which included a rousing version of VOIVOD's Voivod).

Two years passed as the band crafted new songs and continued to gig frequently, opening for renowned death metal acts like MORBID ANGEL and NAPALM DEATH before entering Inner Ear Studios (FUGAZI, NIRVANA) to record their sophomore effort The Blueprints For Madness in 1995. Despite incredibly raw production, the massive strength of the songs themselves garnered extreme enthusiasm from both fans and critics alike. The remainder of 1995 saw more regional and local gigging, honing the band's skills even further. 1995 also saw Last World Records (a small Maryland label) issue all of the now-classic early demos (along with some raw live sets) under the moniker Death Metal From The Grave.

1997 brought Fearless Undead Machines, a perfect union of the power and ferocity of true death metal with the song-writing finesse and grace of its classic metal forerunners, Fearless Undead Machines firmly placed DECEASED a step ahead of retro-metal purveyors who had only then (ten years later) begun to catch up with them. Fearless Undead Machines was an immediate classic in the history of metaldom. An eleven piece concept album inspired by George A. Romero's Night Of The Living Dead / Dawn Of The Dead / Day Of The Dead trilogy, Fearless Undead Machines was given the midas touch from producer Jim Barnes (MORGION, MINDROT), allowing the band's music to be expressed and comprehended as never before. No matter the intention, Fearless....exhibited with a majesty that underground metal hadn't witnessed for years. The brilliant lead guitar work and interplay (see The SIlent Creature and the title track) that Mike and Mark layed down harkened back to the glory days of IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST without sacrificing any of the bite for which extreme metal become known. DECEASED received unrelenting support from both die-hard fans and press as fans of metal collectively raised their fists and banged their heads in unison to Fearless Undead Machine's unwavering dedication to true, underground riffage and straightforward metallic themes.

The band gigged up and down the east coast, topping it all off with a triumphant set at the first annual March Metal Meltdown (1999) in Asbury Park, NJ. While DECEASED continued to play the off-weekend sets at thrash-friendly venues, they were consumed with writing and preparing for their next full-length release. A classic performance at the 1999 November To Dismember gave fans glimpse of what they could expect from the forthcoming album. Fight for metal!! With Supernatural Addiction, DECEASED have again reached through the mirror of time, grabbed the ghost of heavy metal's past by the throat and resuscitated its odorous corpse.

The first band ever to sign with Relapse, DECEASED commences the label's charge into to new millennium with the unreal Supernatural Addiction. Amongst tales of terror, cold shivers and frozen screams, dynamic guitar interplay and unforgettable harmony lines form a thick metal exoskeleton around which King places his gruff, ghastly vocal lashings and thunderous percussive poundings. Paralyzing time with an obsessive devotion to 80's metal stylings, DECEASED champion head-banging thrash riffage, leaving far behind the ever-growing pack of retro-metallers who are only now beginning to catch up. Colossal production from renowned producer Simon Efemey (AMORPHIS, PARADISE LOST) advances the haunting, majestic ferocity of these underground stalwarts. Drawing macabre lyrical inspiration from classic horror-media including The Twilight Zone, Trilogy Of Terror and the original Tales From The Crypt motion picture, Supernatural Addiction conjures fearsome apparitions of thought-provoking classic heavy metal mysticism. This is original, technical American death metal...this is DECEASED! Poseurs beware!!

The masters of sick thrash follow up their now-legendary Supernatural Addiction album with the haunting Behind The Mourner's Veil. This gut-wrenching EP contains the unhuman new DECEASED tracks It's Alive!, The Mausoleum and Victims Of The Masterplan paired with blistering covers of band favorites and metal classics Zombie Attack (TANKARD), The New Age of Total Warfare (WARFARE), Reaganomics (DRI) and Deathrider (ANTHRAX). Pray for your fading survival as DECEASED deliver death metal like no other band can. A video for Supernatural Addiction's Elly's Dementia also appears as a special CD-ROM treat for long time fans! Not even the shrieks from the hearse will be enough to save you!!!

Horrendous
Horrendous
Among the leaders of the New Wave of Old-School Death Metal movement, Horrendous raised the bar last year with the release of their sophomore album, Ecdysis. The critically-acclaimed album was considered by many to be one of the year’s most impressive releases. Decibel Magazine ranked Ecdysis 3rd on their ‘Best of 2014′ list and Fenriz listed the album among his favorites of the year. A year later, Horrendous have once again set a new standard for death metal with Anareta, an eight-track offering of highly-evolved and intense OSDM.

The band had this to say about Anareta: “We are all very proud of the album and feel it is our best work to date. While our composition process has always been spread out over several separated writing-specific sessions, one thing that separates Anareta from our past work is our recording process. We recorded all the songs over one continuous period (the recording sessions for The Chills and Ecdysis were more spread out)–Matt and Jamie stayed at Damian’s house/studio for weeks on end and the three of us lived, breathed and dreamed of nothing but the album during that time. It was our entire lives for over a month (two months if you include the mixing and mastering stage), and we think this complete dedication to the record is one of the factors that really made it turn out so well. There was a lot of magic in the air once we finished the foundation of the record, and each day we built off of the prior day’s creative energies and inspirations until it bloomed into something immense.”
Derketa
Derketa
Derkéta is a doom influenced death metal band from Pittsburgh, PA; known to be the first all female death metal band. The name Derkéta was taken from Stygian Mythology; she was the goddess of death of a blood drinking cult. The band was formed by Sharon Bascovsky (vocals & guitars) and Terri Heggen (drums) in late 1988. Mary Bielich assisted on bass in 1991 but nothing permanent to complete a full lineup. In 1991, Terri and Mary left to pursue other musical interests while Sharon continued Derketa recordings with the help of friends, primarily Jim Sadist from NunSlaughter. In 2006 it was decided to reform Derketa with the original lineup, this time with Robin Mazen on bass and Mary Bielich assisting on guitar. This takes Derketa to the present, the first time having a full stable lineup to play live shows. Currently the band is in the process of writing songs for the first full length release entitled “In Death We Meet”, which promises to satisfy long time fans who have waited many years for a Derketa album. Rest assured there are no musical changes from the early days of Derketa as we feel bound to stay true to ourselves and no others. Our musical beliefs are cemented in the early years of death metal and we will never be a slave to trends.
